About Metro/Class III Soccer |
Metro (also called Select) is the level of soccer
between recreational and competitive. The Metro league
offers an environment for dedicated and skilled players
to develop and play. Metro is classified as class III
soccer (recreational teams are class IV and competitive
teams are class I.). The Metro league covers a wide
geographic area; you may play teams from anywhere from
Fairfield to Chico to El Dorado Hills. The greatest
difference between recreational and select soccer is the
amount of tournament play. Metro teams tend to play in
multiple tournaments each season, although how many
depends on the team. Some may go to two or three
tournaments, while others may play in as many as seven
or eight. Cost for Metro is higher than for recreational
play and also varies by team. In addition to the normal
club registration fees, Metro costs might include
uniforms, equipment, tournament entry fees, trainers,
etc. Metro teams are normally formed when a core group
of players from a recreational team decides to make the
move up to the next level. The club holds try-outs every
year in late winter so that teams can fill any open
spots. To read Land Park Soccer's Metro policies,

Metro Coaching Requirements |
Each Metro team must have at least one coach who is a
certified referee. In addition, all Metro head coaches
must have an E level coaching license and assistant
coaches must have an F license. It's important to plan
ahead if you want to coach at the Metro level because
you can't get all of the certifications necessary to be
a Metro head coach all at once. There must be at least a
six-month gap between the time you obtain your F license
and the time you take the E clinic. For information on
upcoming coaching clinics, visit our Coaches
page.
